Directions: From Clearwater Junction turn north on Highway 83 and travel approximately 27 miles. Turn left at the "Wildlife Viewing" sign and follow the road for one-half mile to the parking area for Rainy Lake Campground.  Walk down to the lake shore.

Latitude-Longitude:  47.20.396 / -113.35.689

Elevation: 4,198 ft.

Lake size: 82 acres

Land ownership: National forest

Facilities: An outhouse is located at the parking area of the campground.  There is no dedicated boat launch.

Boating regs: Manually powered or electric motors only.

How to launch: Launch from any of the gravel beaches along the shoreline.

Description of paddle:  This small lake just of Highway 83 features a stunning view of the Swan Range towering in the east.  Its other major advantage for kayakers and canoeists is that there is no motorized boating allowed on the lake.  The lake itself is small and can be circumnavigated in less than 1 1/2 miles.

Potential issues: During summer, moderate to strong winds generally come up in the afternoon, and that can make the trip across the lake challenging and potentially dangerous.  Also, summer thunderstorms can bring not only lightening but strong winds on the leading edge of the front.
